CHOOSING A CAR RENTAL IN LAHAINA, MAUI

Lahaina, once known as Lele, or “restless sun”, is a town steeped in history. Once the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom in the early nineteenth century, Lahaina was known as a whaling village during the whaling boom in the mid 1800’s, with up to 1500 sailors and 400 or more ships working the whaling trade at that time, including Herman Melville, who wrote about the era in his classic novel Moby Dick.

Nestled between the coast and West Maui Mountains, Lahaina is the gateway to Kapalua and the Kaanapali beach resorts, Lahaina is a 45 minute drive from the Kahului Airport.

Lahaina was a popular spot on Maui, with dozens of art galleries, unique shipping experiences and well-known restaurants. Unfortunately the fires of 2023 took out most of Lahaina, and left it to rebuild from scratch, displacing residents and businesses.
