Payless Car Rental, is an American company founded in 1971 in Spokane Washington, by founder John Les Netterstron, starting as a location rental shop and growing to a franchise system with over 100 locations in the United States. Payless opened its first 2 corporate locations in 2002, with operations located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Payless Car Rental was acquired by the Avis Budget Group in 2013 and operates over 120 Payless Rental Car locations worldwide with over 10,000 vehicles for rent.

Payless Car Rental serves the price conscious business and leisure traveler with a combination of franchise and corporate locations. Some Payless locations share space and resources with Avis to allow for affordability, and fleet control.

What is the Payless rental car cancellation policy?

It is always free to cancel a rental car with Payless when booked through us. We don’t take a deposit or a fee when you book through us - you will pay the car company directly when you arrive at the counter.

Can you return a Payless rental car to any location?

When you rent a vehicle with a pick up in one location, if you wish to drop it in another location on the same island, you must specify that when booking. Choose the separate drop off location as well. Payless only have locations at the airports in Hawaii. Cars will only show for the car companies that have availability at both pick up and drop off locations. Some locations charge a “drop fee” to drop in a separate location. If you do not specify this, you may be charged more to drop unannounced at a different location.

Does Payless Car Rental charge for mileage?

In Hawaii, Payless Car Rental locations do not charge for mileage. The islands are not very big, so you most likely would never drive farther than any mileage limit anyway.

Does Payless charge for additional drivers?

Yes, if the driver is not a spouse or domestic partner, you will pay for any additional drivers.

What kind of cars do Payless have?

Payless Car Rental Airport locations carry a wide range of vehicles, right from the smallest economy sized cars to large vans capable of carrying 12-15 passengers. There are some luxury vehicles, 2 and 4 door wranglers, convertibles and virtually every size in between.

Can I use a debit card at Payless car rental?

Renters over 24 years of age can use a debit card. Anyone between 21-24 will need a credit card, and will be limited on which vehicles they may rent.

Payless Rental Requirements

  • Minimum age 25 years with a major credit card for discount rates
  • Drivers aged 21 – 24 are subject to a $25/day young driver surcharge and can rent economy, compact, intermediate, standard, full-size cars, or a minivan.
  • Minimum age 25 years when presenting a Debit card. Debit cards must have either the MasterCard or Visa logo.
  • A minimum hold of $200 will be applied to debit card rentals

Additional Payless Car Rental Information & Requirements

BEWARE – Adding a Payless Perks Club membership number to this reservation will void the discount rate and the retail rate will apply. You lose the discount and we lose our commission.

Base rates do not include optional insurance, taxes, the Vehicle Licensing fee, the applicable Airport Concession Recovery Fee and the Hawaii Highway Revenue surcharge. Renters will be responsible for all charges directly to the rental location.

Weekly rates can be based on 5 – 7 consecutive days rental on one island only.

Late Return Charges: Rates are based on a 24 hour rental period. Late returns are assessed an hourly charge up to 2 hours, then the daily rateapplies. After 7 hours an additional $10 per day penalty applies for each additional day.

24 hour advance booking recommended. No other coupons or discounts apply. All rentals are subject to standard terms and conditions in effect on the rental date. All prices USD and subject to HI taxes. All rates, taxes, options, and additional charges are subject to change without notice.
