Discount Hawaii car rental is the only company I use to rent cars in Hawaii. You can make a reservation, risk-free, because they have free cancellation at any time. They also have the best rates!! I have never found anyone with better rates than them. They are inexpensive compared to other companies. They also have wonderful customer service! You can email or call them and they get back to you promptly, and have always been friendly and efficient when I've had questions or problems. Would DEFINITELY recommend using if you're traveling to Hawaii, or even if you need a car because you're local. I lived in Hawaii for 8 years and had to rent a car a few times when my own needed work, and I would always use them. There's nobody better, or with better service. Thank you!!

Hi, this is Bob and I am making a referral to you guys. Frankly, I have not used you and I think it is been a couple of years, but it was a really helpful lady there when we ran into a problem. I think her name is Kathy Swift. So I wanted to just make that referral for you guys. To her, she is still with your company and all that. Either way, it is a little business for throwing over your way. And that is all because you took good care of us way back.

We have used Discount Hawaii for several years now and it has always been great. The only issue we have had was our own fault in that we changed our minds about the car when we arrived and they politely helped us sort things out with very little additional cost. I do caution people to read over their rental details carefully to avoid mistakes which is what happened in this case. There is no money up front and we can easily change or cancel a reservation along the way. I once found a slightly cheaper rental and they matched the price with no question. Insurance is always an extra so I carry coverage for rental vehicles on our personal car insurance policy. I would not consider renting elsewhere.

We enjoyed a week in Kona in January 2026 and rented a car through this company. We were pleased with the whole experience. This was our first time using this company and everything went smoothly. The rental rate was excellent. No problems with picking up or dropping off the car or interacting with Thrifty staff. The car was fine for our purposes and we had a great trip. We were also very pleased with the company's responsiveness when we contacted them several times with questions. They were prompt to answer email or return calls.

I have been searching for weeks for a very difficult vehicle to rent in Kauai. Dixie w/ DiscountHawaiicarRentals.com went above and beyond to find me a vehicle to fit our very specific needs. I have not yet even landed in Hawaii but i called to confirm a reservation my boyfriend had booked and Sandy was BEYOND helpful. First they let me know they changed our original reservation to save us money but then when i mentioned my boyfriend who booked it was still under 25 we rebooked it under my name (im over 25) to save over $100 at pick up. BUT THEN he found an even cheaper rental than the first and second. Like what?! I feel like people these days never look to save you money and have had some pretty frustrating experiences with car rentals before. He gave me helpful tips for when we arrive and at pick up and also gave me suggestions as to where to eat and stops to see on the road to hana. Booked a Jeep early this morning... deal seemed too good to be true, so I called the customer service number. Sandy was such a huge help assisting me with the rental process. I wasn't sure if I would need a car and she explained the cancellation process and all the requirements to rent. If you’re renting anywhere else, you’re paying too much. I have been using Discount car rentals since 1999 and it’s “AWESOME”!!! I book my car right when I decide on my trip, I fix the price, then…….. I check every couple days up to the day I leave for my vacation. If the price lowers I rebook and cancel my previous reservation. Their website remembers all of your information so it’s super easy. I save hundreds of dollars every trip!!!!

You guys are the best and I need to tell you that. We bought our condo in KOA at the end of 2017 and travel there twice a year. When we went to pick up the car, we were in and out with our Jeep, top down, in less than 15 minutes, not kidding! We purchased insurance online when booking the reservation, so there was no hassle nor attempts to up sell when we got there. The return process was even faster. You couldn't beat there prices with a stick if you tried!

When I arrived in Kona, I got to the car rental within minutes of getting off the plane. An employee was there to greet me, had an iPad and I literally was done my paperwork within 5 minutes and was gone driving my car out of the parking lot. A determined effort by Kathy over nearly 3 months to settle a dispute with Thrifty, the staff and Kathy saw to it that we were fully reimbursed for a mistake made at rental pick up in Maui. I rented a vehicle through discount Hawaii car rental! My experience was Great! The car was very nice, clean, budget friendly & I got rental insurance through them at time of booking via RentalCover.com. Personal Advice: never pay for Rental Insurance at the counter! Get it through Discount Hawaii Car Rental at the time of booking and you'll save significantly! I ultimately saved $75 on Car Insurance getting it through them cheaper than what the Rental partner charges in person. I Confidently Recommend their services & friendly support staff.

Found a great rate on our trip to Kauai. You don't have to pay when you make the reservation which allows you to keep watching the prices to see if they drop. Prices dropped twice before our trip. It was very easy to cancel previous reservation and rebook. We checked in with no problems with Advantage and got the price as quoted. I'll definitely use DHCR again.

Needed a pickup truck to pick a big item up and every U-Haul was rental was taken on the island apparently. So called, within minutes had a truck booked for a day. Excellent speed. The price was very reasonable and cheaper than expected.

We've been using Discount for over 10 years on every trip to the islands and they have not disappointed us. They are always the best pricing, we get 2 free extra drivers, we can cancel at anytime, and we don't have to pay anything until we turn the car in. We've been happy with all of the car companies they've booked us with. The last time we used them, we needed to change our pickup & dropoff times, and they actually found us a cheaper rate (over $200). We didn't even ask them to look! They went above and beyond and we couldn't be happier. We will continue to use them as our only rental car service for all future Hawaii trips. Thank you Discount.

Staff at Discount Hawaii Car Rental were very knowledgeable and they were able to give me recommendations based on a two day plan at Hilo coming off a cruise ship. They responded to emails and phone messages promptly and they were very helpful in finalizing my plan.

We have been coming to Kauai for years, and have used Discount Hawaii Car Rental for about the last 10. I am a comparison shopper and always check out Costco for their prices, but Discount Hawaii always beats them. Costco used to include an extra driver for free, which was enticing, but now Discount includes 2 extra drivers for free. This has been so helpful as we usually travel with friends and family. While the cars come from the various rental companies, some better than others, they have always honored the reservation to the dollar (sometimes a few pennies different, but who cares?) Changes are easy to make and the people I have spoken to on the phone have the Aloha spirit. Love them.

Get your car rental for less from Discount Hawaii Car Rental! We ended up with Advantage, but we saved a few bucks thanks to these guys. That's basically what this is, shaving off a few bucks! Overall, save your money and come here.

Dixie from Discount Hawaii Car Rental was absolutely fantastic. Rental prices are insane now, and she suggested we change our rental timeline by a day, and in doing so the total rental cost lowered by over 60%! She was so helpful, and this company is incredible. She gave advice about best spots on the island, and their cancellation policy is unbeatable - no questions asked cancellation at anytime, since they don't take your card info. 10/10 would recommend using them!

If this is the one you mean: Discount Hawaii Car Rental.com Discount Hawaii Car Rental is the most respected, most recommended on these boards, along with Costco. DHCR is who my parents used to use, when they were still driving. I'd still choose from Avis, Alamo or Enterprise though and not Payless, maybe not Budget. DHCR is great, but is still just a 3rd party booker; that doesn't mean the underlying company is great.

There is something to be said for kindness in customer service. I can go on (and I will!) about the quality of the services provided, but I just want to shout out the team for the way they interact with their patrons. I've had such lovely interactions with Sandy, Tammy, and Justin every time I've asked a question or needed clarification and that's what will keep me coming back. Back in 2019 I came across Discount Hawaii Car Rental from an online ad while doing research for my very first trip to Hawaii, and in particular, Maui. The site is easy to use and quickly compares prices. They immediately respond too! The lovliest surprise was when prices went down they automatically adjusted the rental price for me and let me know! Fast forward three years and here I am, booking my next rental for early August, taking my kids to Maui for the first time - and the same thing happened! Rental prices went down and the immediately and they adjusted the reservation. I've been so happy with DHCR and look forward my next rental!

They provided the best rate I could find for my recent trip to the big island. In addition, compared to Hotwire/Expedia, you don't need to make any payment before you pick up the car. Overall I had a very smooth experience with discount Hawaii car rental.

After a day in Honolulu we felt we were just missing too much and reserved a car. The whole process was seamless and even got upgraded from a Chevy Spark to a brand new Mustang (hard-top, but still). Pick up took a while due to the face the office was Dollar, Thrifty and Hertz, but once we got on the road it was smooth sailing. I half expected to be hit with additional fees after dropping the car off the following day, but nope. We paid exactly what we were quoted. Excellent.

I mistakenly thought you could have your spouse and an additional driver(friend). The lady I talked with was excellent and sent emails to enterprise car rentals. I expected to pay for the extra driver for the 4-5 days it took to figure it out, but Enterprise charged me no extra and removed the (friend) driver because of your employee who sent several emails on our behalf. I can assure you it was so nice to talk to an employee who understands service! We will use you people every time we rent a car in Hawaii and recommend you to others. Very pleased with your company and staff especially Mike Thank you very much! I have used and will continue to use Discount Hawaii for my rental car needs.

It is my pleasure to communicate my wonderful experience with one of your customer service representatives. Sandy was without a doubt the bright spot in a 3 day ordeal of trying to get to Oahu from Alaska. Due to severe weather in the PNW all airline flights were postponed, rerouted, or in our case simply canceled. Having reserved a car from Alamo thru you I contacted both you and Alamo, leaving email messages regarding the circumstances of our late arrival. Sandy contacted me 1st thing and talked with Alamo attempting to straighten out the reservations. Appalling they refused to hold them past 24 hrs beyond pickup time ( as in the way of background- we come for 6 week stays booked thru you each year. This years reservations were made early last spring and was at a contract price of approximately 2200.00 $. Alamo refused to hold the reservations but would gladly renew the 28 day contract for 5400 $. Sandy was as shocked as I was.) Fortunately Sandy immediately went to work - and within minutes had multiple estimates emailed to me - all of which were under better circumstances than the original Alamo contract but were much cheaper to boot. I selected a car from Budget and she had the reservations made and my confirmation within minutes. I will never be able to express how grateful I was ( am) for her dedicated service ; truly by far above and beyond ; as am a retired Army officer, easily recognize talented , dedicated employees and simply put she is a keeper . Mahalo. and the rest of the story ; today your folks rescued another member of our veterans group ( Twig Tordof) ) who booked direct w/ Alamo and in short was screwed as we were. When I told him this morning of your assistance he immediately spoke with a gentleman in your Oahu office and like me you were able to not only arrange a more suitable car but with better service at a much better price. Planning has started for next year's annual visit and as in the past several years bookings will be made thru your outstanding agency : due in a very large part to the wonderful caring service your staff always displays. PLEASE recognize Sandy for me and pass to her my many Mahalos.

I heard from a few sources that Discount was the best rental car company, and I can see why! The service was much more than I would have ever expected! Tammy helped me with the reservation. We had smooth and seamless rentals in Maui and Kauai using Discount Hawaii Car rental! Did have a hiccup in Honolulu with a huge wait time but that was no fault of DHCR and due to Spring Break, Covid and Staff Shortages. Would definitely recommend using Discount Hawaii Car Rental. They cared about the customer and got us better pricing when rates changed. Easy to communicate with too. Two thumbs up!

This company is absolutely amazing! The pricing is always great and the customer service is beyond compare.

We have been coming to Kauai for years, and have used Discount Hawaii Car Rental for about the last 10. I am a comparison shopper and always check out Costco for their prices, but Discount Hawaii always beats them. Costco used to include an extra driver for free, which was enticing, but now Discount includes 2 extra drivers for free. This has been so helpful as we usually travel with friends and family. While the cars come from the various rental companies, some better than others, they have always honored the reservation to the dollar (sometimes a few pennies different, but who cares?) Changes are easy to make and the people I have spoken to on the phone have the Aloha spirit. Love them.

Get your car rental for less from Discount Hawaii Car Rental! We ended up with Advantage, but we saved a few bucks thanks to these guys. That's basically what this is, shaving off a few bucks! Overall, save your money and come here.

Dixie from Discount Hawaii Car Rental was absolutely fantastic. Rental prices are insane now, and she suggested we change our rental timeline by a day, and in doing so the total rental cost lowered by over 60%! She was so helpful, and this company is incredible. She gave advice about best spots on the island, and their cancellation policy is unbeatable - no questions asked cancellation at anytime, since they don't take your card info. 10/10 would recommend using them!
